How to Show File Location Using Spotlight in Lion

How to Show File Location Using Spotlight in Lion

nb: press command-option, or command/i

One of LIon’s new features, the ability to preview an item from a search result makes it easy to identify the file you are looking for, but what if you wanted to find its location?
Unless you open the file in the search results window there’s really no easy way to determine the file’s original location, or is there?

With some finger clicking and a clue from one of our readers, I discovered how to find the item’s original location.

Check out the instructions below to learn how to find a file’s location in Spotlight.

1. Enter a query in the Spotlight search box and then place your cursor over one of the search results.

When the preview appears press the Command key on your keyboard and while holding down Command press the Option key.

You will notice that the lower border of the preview will expand providing you with the location of the item you are looking for.

If you click on the file from the list while doing this, the location where the file is located will be open and not the file.

The full file path in Lion spotlight no longer appears when one hovers over the selected item. However, command/i provides all that and more. Good to know.
