javascript:void(0)

No matter what web browser you use, you might see the javascript:void(0) error message on certain websites. Here is a rundown of its causes and how to resolve the problem.
Note: please keep in mind that while the error message may be the same, it causes are not. Here are some common workarounds. You may need to try some or all of these.

Anti Popup Software

These programs can interfere and cause problems. A popup program is designed to eliminate those windows that open when you go to websites. However it can cause problems too. In trying to block these popups it can shut down the scripts too.
The solution is to turn off this program. If you want to use it, check its configuration settings for ways to lessen its effect. Or you can download another one instead. It’s a good idea to read product reviews of popup blockers to learn if it causes javascript:void(0) error messages.

Web Proxies

Proxy servers act as go betweens between an IP address and the website. It renders users anonymous, hence its popularity. But it can interfere with websites when loading scripts.
The best way to avoid this problem is not to use a proxy. If you must use one, try another proxy server. There are several websites that list these servers. Choose another one. Be patient when looking for servers that are compatible with web pages and scripts. Although numerous, their quality varies.

Poorly Written Script

The problem could be the script itself. Some websites don’t check their pages for compatibility. The result are javascript:void(0) error messages.
The only thing you can do is send an email to the webmaster. Be sure that you have checked out all other possibilities first though. Only when you are certain that the problem is with the website should you notify the webmaster.

Script Disabled in Browsers

Another possible reason why the page doesn’t load right is that your scripts are disabled. If you are using Internet Explorer go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options. Go to Security and choose “Custom Level”. Scroll through the list until you see “scripting”. Click to enable it.
For Netscape users that keep getting the javascript:void(0) error, go to Edit, Preferences. Go to “Advanced” and then “plugins”. Set a check next to the enable script text.
For Firefox, check the “Enable JavaScript” in Web Features. This is in Options in the Tools menu. If you use Apple Safari, go to Preferences and then Security. Look for the “Enable JavaScript” and check it. Sometimes a reboot may be needed.

Browser Upgrade Needed

Sometimes the answer lies in an upgrade. The script may be written for a new browser. If yours is old, it might not be able to display the features in the new script. In this case, an upgrade is the only option.
Seeing the javascript:void(0) error message doesn’t mean your PC is damaged or there’s a virus. As the examples show, there are other reasons for it. Fortunately, there are solutions.
